Van Everdingen’s landscapes, based on his memories of Norway and Sweden, were not only influential for painters of local scenery such as Jacob van Ruisdael. Impressions of distant lands, such as the exotic and bizarre mountain scenery of northern Europe and pictures of light in the south, were also much in demand among the general public.
