Tradition had it that the medieval Palazzo Moro, on the Campo del Carmine, was the house of Othello, Venice’s fabled general in wars against the Turks. Othello's prominence in Venetian lore is due not least to his role as the hero of Shakespeare’s tragedy and of operas by Rossini and Verdi.
