The two-part work Yellow Cab / Yellow Tape is part of the important series of Networked Images, which Viktoria Binschtok has been working on for several years. In the series, she refers to image material found on the Internet. The search is carried out using the image reverse google search, into which she feeds her own images. As a result, the image search algorithm returns similar images - influenced by the shapes and colour distribution of the original. Inspired by the results, she precisely reproduces a selected motif and photographs it again. In the photographic symbiosis, it remains unclear what was the model and what was the search result.
With this series of works, Binschtok addresses phenomena of our contemporary image economy: the intangible nature of image data, our ever shorter attention spans and the simultaneous power and immediacy of the images we consume.
"Screen time and off-line time often switch back and forth in our everyday life. Our gaze jumps between information on the mobile device and in the environment in which we are physically, at that moment. I try to simulate this visual experience.” Viktoria Binschtok
