The two panels (see inv. no. 1019) originally formed the upper opening section of the wings of a triptych that probably showed a Madonna flanked by the figures of two saints. This depiction of the Annunciation does without any attributes or symbolic details such as a lectern or dove. The setting of this scene and the depth suggested is purely evoked by the carefully composed tiled floor.
