The dynamic interaction between the sculpture-like figures within a confined space is characteristic of Procaccini, who was active in Lombardy. The Christ Child playfully turns towards the roses held in the angel’s hand. These stand symbolically for the Passion and the Redemption, while the apple is a reference to the Fall.
