This nature study, done in oil on paper and most likely completed on site, shows Tivoli and its cliff location. The elevated standpoint of the viewer encompasses a view of the plateau as well as the valley beneath the city and hints at a view of the sea. The waterfalls are barely visible; only the "Cascata Grande" to the left is suggested as a thin stream. The city in the background is depicted in bright colors, and appears to reflect the light. The subtle tonal gradations with the shadows also in color, allow the rock formations and other objects to merge with each other in a soft, shimmering atmospheric light in which details disappear. Dillis has chosen an unusual view of the famous Tivoli and, through the use of delicately nuanced tones of pink, violet, gray and yellow, alludes to the time of day as well as the climatic conditions, capturing a distinct, vivid moment.

Seit 1999 forscht das Referat Provenienzforschung zur Herkunft aller Kunstwerke der Bayerischen Staatsgemäldesammlungen, die vor 1945 entstanden sind und die seit 1933 erworben wurden.
