The identity of this elegantly dressed young man is unknown. The figure in his left hand, which is reminiscent of the wax models that Domenico’s father and teacher, Jacopo Tintoretto, is known to have used, allows us to assume that this is a painter. The pair of compasses, held pointing towards the panoramic landscape that is painted to great effect, would suggest the same.
