This is the only painting by Neureuther in this room not based on a work of literature. The picture of the young Mary kneeling on the ground while she holds her child recalls the type of Italian Renaissance image of the Virgin and Child known as the `Madonna of Humility¿. Both landscape and figure are southern in style, while the delicate colours are reminiscent of pastel.
