The painting shows the northern side of the Alhambra with the huge Comares Tower, which contains a throne room ranking among the most magnificent sights in the entire complex. Below the palace a mysterious funeral procession is making its way through the nocturnal darkness with lanterns and torches – a reminder of the country’s Christian traditions.
