This portrait of a Venetian lady is impressive for its vitality. A dignified distance is created through the contact to the viewer out of the corner of her eye. The red garment with a pleated skirt, corset and puffy sleeves corresponds in cut and colour to the latest fashions of the day. The exquisite material and the dainty kerchief in her left hand indicate her high social status. It is probably a portrait of Zuanna Cuccina, for whose family Veronese executed several major commissions.
