Both this painting's original destination and the identity of its patron are unknown, but St Andreas and St Agatha presumably are the namesakes of two of the kneeling supplicants. The elegant female figures in the middle ground reflect the influence of Antwerp Mannerism, which from 1510 on permeated the Leiden artist's oeuvre.
