Together with its counterpart now in Strasbourg, this spalliera panel painting, originally part of the furnishings for a room, represents the first narrative depiction of the Prometheus saga in painting in the modern era. It is based on Boccaccio’s reinterpretation of the ancient myth, and Piero places the statue of the youth created by Prometheus at the centre.
