More about this artwork
This illusionistic arrangement is an especially early example of a still life and trompe l’œil. The Venetian master, a friend of Dürer’s, signed this exceptional work prominently on the folded cartellino. He probably painted it for the Elector of Saxony, Frederick the Wise.
