St Joseph is rarely given such prominence in scenes of the Adoration as in this tondo. Both the architectural ruins and the landscape, as well as the precise depiction of the materials’ qualities clearly reveal that the painter had intensively studied Early Netherlandish art that was highly esteemed in Florence at that time.
