Previtali was one of the most popular artists in Bergamo. This devotional painting reveals the strong influence of Giovanni Bellini, of whom Previtali described himself a pupil. The Christ Child playing with a bird, a symbol of the Passion, and the populated landscape in the background lend this composition considerable charm.
