The landscape of Spain contained fewer features with historical, literary and mythological associations than those of Greece and Italy. Landscape painters therefore sought their motifs in the country’s comparatively bleak natural surroundings. Bamberger here chose a distant view of the Sierra Nevada, adding a reflection of it in an area of water in the middle ground.
