Susanna is being watched by two elderly men while she is bathing in her garden. Through her crouched posture, inspired by a Classical sculpture, she attempts to evade their gaze and, as such, represents the epitome of chastity. By contrast, the vehement gestures of the two old men illustrate their lust; no obstacle is going to prevent them from satisfying their desire. Provoked by her resistance, they later slander Susanna whose innocence is ultimately proven by the Prophet Daniel.
