Whereas the skull and the fob watch symbolize man’s mortality and the passing of time, the turban snail, fruit, and bouquet of flowers are reminders of the transience of earthly splendour. The crucifix, ivy, and ears of grain, however, stand for the Resurrection and eternal life.
