The merry group has obviously been heartily indulging in wine. The dog, staring longingly at the waffles, is the symbolic embodiment of this animalistic behaviour. Two children, one of whom is drinking from a wine glass like the adults, illustrates the adage in the title that addresses the example set by older people. The parrot, which is considered particularly easy to teach, renders this message visible. Just like a child, it picks up both the good and the bad and repeats these without reflection.
