The ‘Glim Lamentation’ is the epitaph of the Nuremberg goldsmith Albrecht Glim and his wife, Margret Holtzmann, who died in 1500. Both are depicted in the foreground with their children and the family coat of arms. The epitaph originally hung on a pillar in the Predigerkirche in Nuremberg, in which Albrecht Grim’s tomb was located. His son had the painting removed before 1547 and sold it. Stylistic parallels to Dürer’s works at the end of the fifteenth century are clearly obvious (see, for example, ‘The Apocalypse’ series of woodcuts).
