Arpád Sándor was an important Hungarian pianist, widely known as an accompanist to great international singers and violinists.
He was a student at the Royal Academy of Music in Budapest, where he studied composition with Zoltán Kodály and piano with Béla Bartók. He graduated in 1922.
His first trip to the United States was in 1922, when he toured as an accompanist. He worked as an arts journalist and critic for the Berliner Tageblatt magazine. When Hitler seized power in Germany in 1933, Sándor left for the United States that same year. There he frequently toured with Lily Pons, Jascha Heifetz, and many others, and recorded with Fritz Kreisler.
He became a naturalized US citizen in 1943. He was the cousin of Hungarian-American pianist György Sándor. (vgl. http://www.contraclassics.com/browser/artist:454, Zugriff am 21.8.2017, I.v.z.M.)
