Canaletto’s central perspectival view of the Doge’s Palace is a prime example of his mature style of painting that was much in demand throughout Europe, in which he portrayed Venice just as accurately as atmospherically. This painting and its companion piece came from the collection of the sculptor Antonio Canova.
