Apart from the unusually large Christ Child, the overall monumentality and powerful dynamism of the figures show, in particular, how Titian handled his impressions of Michelangelo’s work. He creates a masterly correlation between the composition full of suspense and the view of the landscape, adding calm through the heavy drapery. The dominant expressiveness of the coloration is characteristic of Titian’s late work. He celebrated his painterly independence with great confidence in powerful brushstrokes.
