The Virgin as the Queen of Heaven is holding the Christ Child on her lap, offering him a rose; the Holy Virgin Martyrs and angels surround them. The angels are playing a tabor pipe, drum, shawm, lute, psaltery, fiddle, mandora and triangle. They are inviting the Christ Child to join in. It would appear that the music-loving Cistercian nuns from Mariengarten Convent in Cologne commissioned the artist to interpret the name of their convent in pictorial form.
