The palace of the Dukes of Brabant on the Coudenberg in Brussels, medieval in origin but extended on several occasions, temporarily served as the residence of the governors-general of the Spanish Netherlands, the ranks of which included the Bavarian Elector Max Emanuel, who held this office from 1691 onwards.
