A servant has just drawn back a curtain to reveal a sumptuous still life. To the left, two hounds are scuffling with a cat that has presumably been helping itself to the delicacies spread out here. Another scuffle can be expected in the upper section of the picture, where a monkey sitting beneath the drapery has already snatched a stalk with fruit, fiercely attacked by a parrot that is balancing to the right of the vine and the back of the chair.
