The painting depicts peaks in the Sierra Nevada in Andalusia. In the background on the left is the snow-covered pyramid of the Mulhacén, the highest mountain in the Iberian peninsula. Bamberger floods the scene with the kind of dramatic light he was familiar with from the work of his artistic model, Carl Rottmann.
