Gallery depictions were a special area of interest in Flemish painting of the 17th century. Frans Francken, one of the foremost proponents of this genre, shows here the reception room in Nicolas Rockox's house. Rockox was a respected patrician and nine-time burgomaster (mayor) of Antwerp. The walls are covered with paintings, some of which are identifiable, as are the Antique busts; they were also recorded in the inventory of Rockox's estate.
