In this pastel, Liotard depicts the fair complexion of the women and the different types of cloth in their clothing. In comparison with the works of La Tour, the surfaces seem homogeneous and smooth; Liotard does without sketchlike strokes of pastel crayon. The facial features of the seated woman seem portrait-like, blurring the border between portrait and genre.
