Alongside Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, Pittoni is considered one of the most important painters of the Venetian Late Baroque. His compositions are characterised by their lightness and elegance. The incarnation of God through the birth of Christ is mystically heightened here by the light and the cloud irrupting on the scene with the angels.
