Schack described the subject of this small painting as ‘the Tocador de la Reina, the charming little pavilion in the Alhambra that hovers above the Darro at a dizzying height, not far from the Torre de Comares. In the foreground sits the young [Ernst von] Liphart, busy drawing, and I am standing beneath the arcades of the little loggia, casting my gaze across to the Generalife, which can just be made out on the slope opposite.’
