Führich depicts the Christianisation of the Germanic tribes as a civilising process. It begins on the left with a life dominated by hunting and ends on the right with the cultural achievements of the first monks: the young are taught the principles of Christian salvation, the forests are cleared and the land is cultivated. A knight worshipping an image of the Virgin Mary occupies the centre. In the distance on the far right a stone-built monastery with a large church dominates the landscape.
