The Italian composer and violin virtuoso Giuseppe Tartini claimed that his well-known Devil’s Trill Sonata was inspired by Satan, who allegedly played it to him in a dream. Tartini wrote down the composition and did not rest until he had mastered the extremely difficult piece. Marshall shows the musician lying on a bed in a monk’s cell while the devil plays the violin.
